Orthopedagogy draws on cognitive neuroscience, cognitive and developmental psychology, education science, didactics and metacognition. It helps us understand the mechanisms involved in learning — attention, memory, comprehension, reasoning, executive functions — in order to identify the obstacles each young person meets and to offer strategies suited to the way they work.
Our knowledge of schools and our experience with students of very different profiles let us build a genuine bridge between scientific knowledge about learning and its practical use. We do not only work on school results: we try to understand how the young person learns, what hinders their learning and which levers we can use.
Orthopedagogical support, combined where relevant with sophrology and emotional-regulation techniques, aims to help the young person know themselves better as a learner, develop effective strategies, strengthen their cognitive functions, regain a sense of competence and confidence in their abilities. The goal is gradually to make them an active player in their own learning and to give meaning back to their schooling and future plans.
AGIR also supports families, especially when children have special educational needs or neurodevelopmental disorders (dyslexia and related disorders, ADHD…), as well as education and support professionals, to foster a better understanding of difficulties and consistent action around the young person.
As a non-profit association (loi 1901), AGIR works for equal opportunities, the prevention of school difficulties and the fight against dropout. Supported by institutional partners and public funding, the association acts in the general interest and with accessibility in mind, not as a commercial business.

“The orthopedagogy support did me a lot of good, and it’s thanks to it that I didn’t leave school. I was discouraged in year 11. I was supported all year and found a direction that suits me.”

Orthopedagogy is an approach that seeks to understand how each student thinks in order to help them build effective learning strategies. It works on mental gestures — attention, memorisation, comprehension, reasoning — and gives new meaning to being a student.
